Vincent Herring's -The Story of Jazz Orchestra hits the road

After many rehearsals and a 5 night run at the famed Birdland Jazz Club in New York City in January 2017, Bandleader, Vincent Herring is taking his Jazz Orchestra on the road.

The Story of Jazz Orchestra project celebrates the 100th birthday of jazz (1917-2017) and performs newly commissioned arrangements of classic jazz hits written by prominent artists from each idiom throughout jazz history.

I am delighted to be the featured narrator and vocalist in an orchestra that includes a dazzling array of contemporary jazz luminaries -- On saxes, leader, Vincent HerringEric Alexander, and James Carter.  On trumpets Jon Faddis and Jeremy Pelt, with Steve Turre on trombone. In the rhythm section Mike LeDonne on piano, Kenny Davis on bass and drummer, Carl Allen

Our first performance will be at the Burghausen, Germany Jazz Festival on March 25th, followed by Festivals in Villafranca, Frankfurt, North Sea in Rotterdam, and  the Open Jazz Festival in Stuttgart,  in July 2017.

International Jazz Day April 30, 2016

Had the pleasure of being the featured male vocalist with the San Jose State University's Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Aaron Lington, at the Hammer Theatre this year. Jazz Appreciation was celebrated in many countries throughout the world including a star-studded show in the White House.

Having just returned from Germany, and getting over my jet lag, I am now able to share my recent adventure about the Jazzahead conference in Bremen, and my performances with Fuasi Abdul Khaliq, an expat, saxophonist extraordinaire who lives in Berlin.  Talent buyers and musicians from around the world gathered in Bremen from April 23-27, where I had a chance to present my artistry.

Me and my team made several meaningful contacts from Scotland, Austria, France, Slovenia, and Korea that we plan to pursue for upcoming music festivals in their respective countries, AND.... we had a chance to experience some of the wonderful musicians who performed at many of the showcases around town.  I also got my fill of German food during those 4 days ( smile ).

After leaving Bremen we drove over to Hamburg for a couple of days of sightseeing, before heading east to Berlin where I performed with Fuasi Abdul Khaliq and his Ebony Big Band for International Jazz Day on April 30th.

Had a quick 3 day but wonderful trip to Minsk, Belarus a few days ago, where I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Grammy-winning saxophonist, Vincent Herring from New York for the Jazz in Minsk Music Festival.

I boarded the plane in Frankfurt, after a long trip from San Francisco, took my seat and noticed another 'brother' coming down the aisle carrying a musical instrument hard case. Since we were both on our way to Minsk,  I caught his eye, and asked if he was going to perform at the Jazz Festival the following night.  Much to my pleasure, he and another 'brother' from Berlin, were part of the band for my performance.  And... what a performance it was.  A pure joy to share the stage with Vincent!!
